The Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad is hosting open runs for middle school boys basketball. Athletes grades 6th through 8th from all Carlsbad schools are invited to join in on the play. The runs are on November 25th from 6:00-7:00 PM at the Bressi Ranch Clubhouse (2730 Bressi Ranch Way, Carlsbad, CA 92009). There are a limit number of spots due to gym space, so be sure to register today.

They will consist of a short dynamic warmup, followed by live play scrimmaging for the rest of the time. Some of the coaches that will be with us this season will be at runs, but are not answering questions regarding or talking about, the team. They are simply there to say hello and watch the open gym.

Due to limited space in the gym, we are asking that parents do not stay and watch the runs. We are trying to fit as many athletes as we can with limited room.

Tryouts are on Monday, December 1st, 2025 in the school gym.

Varsity is at 2:30pm, Junior Varsity(JV) is at 3:30PM and tryouts for the 6th grade team is at 4:30

Tryouts are only an hour long and will be composed of a few skill based drills, followed by a lot of live play.

Player eligibility is as follows: The Varsity team can be composed of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. The JV team can be compsoed of 6th and 7th graders. The 6th grade team is only available to 6th graders.

Teams are formed according to ability, effort, and overall performance—not grade level. Younger players may “play up” if their skill level allows. However, older players cannot always be placed on a lower team. If a player does not earn a spot on one of the teams they are eligible for, they may not be placed on a roster.

If a player is trying out for multiple teams, they just need to attend the highest level tryout. For example if a seventh grade athlete wants to tryout for both Varsity and JV, they just need to attend the Varsity tryout. The evaluation information will be passed along to both coaches.

General Program Information
Our basketball teams are sponsored by the Boys & Girls Club, and all coaches are employees of the Club. However, all practices take place on campus, and games will be held either at the school or at nearby North County schools. We want to make this partnership clear so families know who is supporting the program and where all activities will take place.

Practice & Game Schedule
Before Winter Break, all teams (6th Grade, JV, and Varsity) will have basketball activities Monday through Thursday — this may include practices or games depending on the weekly schedule. There is a one day tournament on a Saturday. After Winter Break, the schedule will adjust slightly:

• JV & Varsity: No changes; their schedule will remain Monday through Thursday for all practices and games.

• 6th Grade Team: Practices will shift to Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with games on Fridays.

Additional Events
We will also be hosting team-bonding activities as well as an end-of-year banquet. Dates for these events are still being finalized and will be shared as soon as they are confirmed.
