Tryouts

Date: Tuesday, September 9th
Location: Calavera Hills Gymnasium

Tryout Schedule:

Varsity: 2:45 – 4:15 PM (Any grade can make Varsity)
JV: 4:15 – 5:45 PM (Only 6th & 7th graders are eligible)
6th Grade Team: 5:45 – 6:45 PM (Only 6th graders are eligible)

Important Notes:

You may only attend one tryout session.
You will still be evaluated for all teams you’re eligible for.
- Example: If a 7th grader tries out for Varsity but doesn’t make it, coaches will also consider them for JV.
Volleyball is a cut sport. We take 12 players per team.

Rosters will be posted here and emailed to players on Saturday, September 13th.

Calavera Hills Middle School Volleyball Tryout Information

Thank you for registering for volleyball tryouts! Please read the following information carefully — this contains everything you need to know about tryouts, team selection, and the upcoming season.

Tryout Details

Date:Tuesday, September 9th
Location:Calavera Hills Gymnasium

Schedule:

Varsity: 2:45 – 4:15 PM (Any grade can make Varsity)

JV: 4:15 – 5:45 PM (Only 6th & 7th graders eligible)

6th Grade Team: 5:45 – 6:45 PM (Only 6th graders eligible)

Important: You may only attend one tryout session. Coaches will still evaluate you for all teams you qualify for.
Example: A 7th grader who tries out for Varsity but doesn’t make it will also be considered for JV.

What to Bring/Wear

Athletic clothing (shorts, t-shirt, or jersey).

Court-appropriate athletic shoes.

Knee pads (recommended but not required).

Water bottle (labeled).

Hair secured away from face.

Positive attitude & hustle.

Selection Process & Team Sizes

Volleyball is a cut sport — we take 12 players per team.

Selection is based on:

Skill level (serving, passing, setting, hitting, defense).

Effort, hustle, and athleticism.

Teamwork and sportsmanship.

Coach ability and communication.

Positional needs of each team.

Attendance Policy

You must attend your full tryout session to be considered.

If you are sick or injured, you must email the Athletic Director before tryouts to discuss a possible makeup date.

Missing tryouts without prior communication means you will not be considered for a team.

Team Notification

Date: Saturday, September 13th

Time: Rosters will be posted online by 5:00 PM and emailed to families.

Check your email AND spam/junk folders.

Rosters will also be posted on this site.

Season Schedule

First Practice: Tuesday, September 15th.

Practices will be held 3–4 times per week after school.

Game schedules will be distributed once finalized. Usually by first day of practice.

Additional Notes

All athletes are expected to represent Calavera Hills Middle School with pride, both on and off the court.

If selected, there will be a mandatory parent/player meeting during the first week of practice.

There’s no provided Transportation to away games. We can coordinate carpool via Teamsnap our team communication app if needed.

Girls Volleyball – 2025 Season Information

Welcome to Calavera Hills Girls Volleyball! Below is the complete season overview, including practices, games, tournaments, and special events. Please read carefully so you are fully informed before signing up for tryouts.

Season Timeline

First Practice: September 15th
Season Ends:

Varsity: October 23rd or October 30th (depending on post season success)

JV Team: November 5th

6th Grade Team: November 6th

Practices

Practice times vary slightly by school site but generally follow:
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays
- Varsity: 2:45–4:15 PM
- JV: 4:15–5:15 PM
- 6th Grade Team: 4:15–5:15 PM
Thursdays
- Varsity: 2:45–4:15 PM
- JV: 4:15–5:15 PM
- 6th Grade Team: 4:15–5:15 PM

Games & Tournaments

Games begin September 17th and run through October 30th, with both League and Non-League matchups.
Big Eight League games include home and away competitions.
Varsity and JV Season includes about 8-12 games; 6th Grade team is about 6-8 games
Varsity Special 2-day tournament September 25th–26th
JV and 6th Grade teams have separate end-of-season tournaments (November 5 & November 6).

Team Pizza Party: Celebrating the end of the season.

Parent Reminders

Teamsnap: Once you make the team its vital you receive the team snap invite via email and download the app. Make sure to turn notifications on!
Uniforms & Gear: Players will be provided a team jersey. Players should have court-appropriate shoes, knee pads, and a labeled water bottle.
Transportation: Parents are responsible for arranging transportation to away games unless otherwise notified.
Attendance: Consistent attendance at practices and games is expected for all players.
Communication: Schedule changes or updates will be communicated via teamsnap.

Cost and Financial Aid

Season Costs $315
Financial Aid is available to apply click on the top right corner of our site on the financial aid tab fill out the application and will be in contact with you shortly on what aid you will receive
