We are proud to be partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of Northwest San Diego to bring you All Girls Open Runs. This new program will allow girls grades 4th through 8th to compete in a low pressure and encouraging environment. No coaches, no officials just a place where players can come to get some fun pick up games in. Each month, the Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad will host a session, and our partner club will also be running sessions.
There are many reasons why pickup is a great tool for a developing basketball player. Pick up allows players to try new things in game like, low pressure settings. It also tremendously helps a player with their basketball knowledge, as playing with people you have never played with before, takes real time adjustments. Many great players contribute playing pickup with their on the court success.
What goes on at the open runs?
Players will show up, either by themselves or with other players they would like to be on a team with. There will be time at the beginning to warm up and stretch before we get to playing. Once we have two teams they will step on the court for 5 minute games. After the games there will be a water break and then we get back to playing.
While there are no set coaches for the teams, and no officials on the court, Boys and Girls Club coaches will be in the gym to help facilitate. We want this to be a competitive, yet low pressure time for the players.
Are parents allowed at open runs?
Parents are more than welcome to watch their player while they are at open runs. We just ask that no coaching, officiating, or comments regarding a players game be made while in the gym. The mission of our program is to provide a fun, welcoming space where girls can play basketball, make new friends, and improve their skills — all in an affordable, supportive environment.
